Proposed Drake Springs Pool Completion Schedule

This is the City Parks & Rec Department’s best estimate for design and construction of a new outdoor pool at Nelson Park.  The projected completion date could change if construction is delayed (by things like material availability and weather) beyond early June, 2008.  If that’s the case, the pool opening may be pushed back until the end of the 2009 season.

Design Process:

This will likely take 5-7 months.  This is the time to firmly determine the size and basic structure of the pool using a design team of Park and Rec staff, the architect’s team and other City staff from affected departments.  There will be time to obtain some public input on things like features and minor layout details.  The length of time it takes to reach a consensus on the scope and layout of the pool may prolong this phase

The goal is to bid the project by March-April of 2008.

Construction Process:

The goal is to start construction in May, 2008

This will likely take 8-12 months and will vary depending on material availability and weather.  If at any point the process is delayed more than a month, construction will likely take 3-5 months longer due to a winter shutdown.  Underground utilities and footings for the bathhouse need to be done prior to the ground freezing for construction to continue during the winter of 2008-09.  If these elements are not done in time, the project will be shut down until spring.

Pool Opening:

The goal is to open the pool at or near the start of the 2009 swim season.
