The McKennan Park 100 year celebration reaches its peak with 3 event-filled days in August. We hope you to see you attend some or all of the planned events from August 8 - 10, 2008! 

Friday, August 8:

  • Pool Open 1 - 5 p.m. and 6 - 9 p.m.
  • Plein Aire Painters in the park - various times throughout the day.
  • Avera McKennan Nurse's Station - in the park at various times throughout the day (Avera McKennan Hospital will be celebrating its Centennial in 2011, for more information on the history of Avera McKennan - please log onto http://www.averamckennan.org/amck/about/history/index.aspx.
  • Historic Guided Walking Tour of the Park - 3 p.m. starting at the north parking lot shelter (Larry Weires, long time park employee and resident park historian will provide attendees with a developmental tour of the park.)
  • Historic District Neighborhood walking tour - 7 p.m. starting at the north parking lot shelter (conducted by Siouxland Heritage Museums)
    A north and south version of the tour will run simultaneously.
  • Living History Film Premiere - in the bandshell at 8 p.m. (The living history film premiere is a compilation of memories from various Sioux Falls citizens, and produced by CityLink Cable Channel 16. The film will be premiered on a movie screen in the bandshell donated for use by Downtown Sioux Falls.)

Saturday, August 9:

  • Pool Open 1 - 5 p.m. and 6 - 9 p.m.
  • Plein Aire Painters in the park - various times throughout the day.
  • Avera McKennan Nurse's Station - in the park at various times throughout the day.
  • Children's Book Reading(s) in the Sunken Gardens - 9:30 a.m.
  • Tricycle & Wagon Parade for 6 year olds and younger - 10 a.m. (At 10 a.m., children 6 years of age and younger are invited to gather at the Northwest entrance of the park.)
  • Phil Baker Performance in the Bandshell - 11 a.m.
  • Zoo Mobile Program - 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
  • Dog Show at the bandshell - 2:15 p.m. registration - Show Starting at 3 p.m.
  • "Croquet on the Boulevard" sponsored and organized by the Womens History Club - 4-6 p.m.
  • Grill available for Picnickers from 4-7 p.m. (provided by Matt Parker and the Minnehaha Country Club)
  • Youth Mixed Martial Arts demonstration held in the Sunken Gardens - 5 p.m.
  • Dr Julia Bennett, Associate Professor at Augustana College will present an interpretive performance on the life of Helen McKennan at 6 p.m. at the bandshell.
  • Historic Walking Tour of the Park - 6 p.m. starting at the north parking lot shelter (Larry Weires, long time park employee and resident park historian will provide attendees with a developmental tour of the park. The tour)
  • Mogen's Heroes - playing a one-hour show in the bandshell beginning at 7 p.m.

Sunday, August 10:

  • Pool Open 1 - 5 p.m. and 6 - 9 p.m.
  • Plein Aire Painters in the park - various times throughout the day.
  • Avera McKennan Nurse's Station - in the park at various times throughout the day.
  • Ecumenical Sunday Service in the historic bandshell - 9 a.m.
  • Light Breakfast at the picnic shelter (following the Sunday service)
  • Children's Book Reading(s) in the Sunken Gardens at 10:30 a.m.
  • Ice Cream Social at the NEW picnic shelter - 1:30 p.m.
  • Dedication of the Centennial Tree by Mayor Dave Munson - 2:30 p.m.
  • Municipal Band concert at the historic bandshell at 3 p.m.
